Camping and Hiking

My parents introduced me to camping before I was able to walk. The spot we have been going to for decades is Mono Lake. It is the ultimate reset from normal life. There are a bunch of great hikes around Mono Lake, my favorites being Lundy Canyon, Mosquito Flats, and Virginia Lakes.

One of my trips down to Death Valley, I was able to go visit Cerro Gordo, which really sparked my interest in old mines. Besides Cerro Gordo, the old Keane Wonder Mines hike is easily one of my favorite hikes.

My dad and I both have Four Wheel Camper Hawks and we both have outfitted ours with 300AH of LiFePO4 batteries, and I installed 400W of solar. We can pretty much go anywhere.

Home Improvement

Another creative outlet of mine is home improvement. Specifically, I love older homes. I have a 1930's duplex and a 1910's house. Working around a century of upgrades, changes, and hacks, makes for a fun, unique challenge. I enjoy more of the structural/construction aspects of home improvement. I have managed to learn how to install new subflooring and flooring, install a sump pump, fixed up antique light fixtures to be installed on modern wiring, install new countertops, and many more smaller things. As of writing this, I am completely renovating one of the units at my duplex.

Music

I collect music in both digital and analog formats. My digital collection is about a 2TB and I have a record collection of about 700 records. My collection spans all genres, my favorites being rock, indie, folk, and experimental. I am very proud of the collection I have accumulated so far and do not plan to stop anytime soon.

Audio Engineering

Have done personal research on the technicalities of sound such as DACs, ADCs, distortion, gain, speaker impedance, speaker drivers, digital sound file formats/encoding, audio signals (balanced vs single ended), and digital signal processing. I am currently doing some research on vacuum tube transistors as I would like to design and build myself a new tube amplifier.

Photography

In 2012, I had the oportunity to travel to Haiti as a volunteer for a non-profit named Zanmi Lakay, who hosted a photojournalism camp for homeless children living in Haiti. My role was to manage the cameras and teach the children how to use the cameras. I also got some one-on-one with a few students to teach them photoshop.

Now I am more into nature phtotography and recently, I have tried my hands at analog photography. I purchased a Pentax MX camera and some 35mm film. I am excited to use this on my future camping trips!

I found it amazing the amount of stuff that people could carry on their heads. This was one of the crziest.

Another Jacmel beach. This time the beach is made of garbage instead of sand. This was a major issue throughout Haiti. Many times we would come across large piles of garbage on the street and other it would wash up from the ocean. Unfourtunately, most of the garbage ends up in the ocean.

There was so much garbage that wild pigs and homeless dogs would scavange for food. Most probably lived in it.
